Caroline Calais Bio

Caroline Älvebrink Calais, M.S, M.A  was born in Sweden and is a naturalized American citizen. She received a B.Sc in Sociology from Uppsala University, a Certificate in Journalism from Poppius School of Journalism in Stockholm, a M.A in Liberal Arts from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, and a M.S in International Political Economy from the University of Texas at Dallas.

After a short career as a fashion model , Caroline started at Texas Instruments International Trade corporation’s consumer division in Stockholm, here she played a major role in the development of key strategic marketing activities.

In 1992, Caroline moved to Caracas, Venezuela, where she provided coverage and correspondence on political and economic issues for ‘Svenska Dagbladet’, one of the largest print newspapers in Sweden. She also engaged in economic and educational support for school-aged children in deprived areas by soliciting donations from businesses, embassies and elite members of Venezuela.

Caroline moved to Dallas, Texas in 1995, and in combination with her studies at the University of Texas at Dallas, Caroline worked as a Research- and Teaching assistant. She taught break-out sessions at the undergraduate level and provided research assistance for faculty members at the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences. She was also a Research Fellow at the American Center for International Policy Studies.

Caroline has been a frequent contributor to’s politics channel, the AXS Guide and CBS-DFW Lifestyle. In Sweden her articles have been published by Svenska Dagbladet, Aftonbladet and Uppsala Nya Tidning. 

On her free-time Caroline enjoys riding and showing her reining horses. She also likes spending time with her afghan hounds Beowulf and Freyr and her two cats.

Caroline is married to Mikael Calais.
