Caroline Älvebrink Calais, M.S, M.A was born on the small island of Gräsö in Sweden and is a naturalized American citizen. She received a B.Sc in Sociology from Uppsala University, a Certificate in Journalism from Poppius School of Journalism in Stockholm, a M.A in Liberal Arts from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, and a M.S in International Political Economy from the University of Texas at Dallas.
After a short career as a fashion model , Caroline started at Texas Instruments International Trade corporation’s consumer division in Stockholm, where she played a major role in the development of key strategic marketing activities.
In 1992, Caroline moved to Caracas, Venezuela, where she provided coverage and correspondence on political and economic issues for ‘Svenska Dagbladet’, one of the largest print newspapers in Sweden. She also engaged in economic and educational support for school-aged children in deprived areas by soliciting donations from businesses, embassies and elite members of Venezuela.
Caroline moved to Dallas, Texas in 1995, and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1998. In early 2000, after the death of her young daughter, Caroline started studies at the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) . In combination with her studies in International Political Economy, Caroline worked as a Research- and Teaching assistant, provided research assistance for faculty members and taught break-out sessions at the undergraduate level. She was also a Research Fellow at the American Center for International Policy Studies.
After graduating in 2008 Caroline started working for the online newspaper Examiner.com (Clarity Media Group), where she covered Texas energy, environmental and public policy. She also covered local Texas elections. When Examiner.com closed its doors in 2016 Caroline started writing Lifestyle for CBS in Dallas. In June 2021 Caroline started her own podcast ” Hänt i Veckan med Caroline Älvebrink Calais” covering US news and politics for the Swedish market.
In Sweden her articles have been published by Svenska Dagbladet, Aftonbladet and Uppsala Nya Tidning.
On her free-time Caroline enjoys riding and showing her reining horses. She also likes spending time with her afghan hounds and two cats.
Caroline is married to Mikael Calais.
