Caroline Älvebrink Calais, M.S., M.A., known professionally in Dallas as Caroline Calais, is a political economist, freelance journalist, and writer with a perspective shaped by life in Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
Born on the island of Gräsö in Sweden, Caroline moved to the United States in 1995 and is a naturalized American citizen based in Dallas, Texas. Her work focuses on U.S. politics, Texas policy, international political economy, and geopolitics, informed by lived experience across cultures and political systems.
Caroline has reported for Swedish and U.S. outlets including Svenska Dagbladet, Aftonbladet, CBS Dallas, and Examiner.com. She has also produced English- and Swedish-language podcasts exploring American politics and current affairs for international audiences.
Her academic background includes an M.S. in International Political Economy from The University of Texas at Dallas, an M.A. in Liberal Arts from Southern Methodist University, and a B.Sc. in Sociology from Uppsala University, along with a journalism certificate from Poppius School of Journalism in Stockholm. She has served as a research fellow at the American Center for International Policy Studies and as a teaching assistant at The University of Texas at Dallas.
Before turning to journalism and political economy, Caroline worked in international business and strategic marketing for Texas Instruments in Stockholm and had an early career in international fashion modeling.
Today, she writes on politics, economics, and global affairs, bringing international perspective to audiences in the United States and Scandinavia.
